Football Cookie Platter Design

I love cookie platters because they make such a big statement without requiring a bunch of complicated cookie designs.

For this football platter cookie cutter set, I kept things simple with just three cookie shapes:

  • Football Helmet Cookies: A classic football helmet design that's perfect for customizing with your favorite team's colors.
  • Football Goal Post Cookies: A fun design that adds variety to the platter and ties the football theme together.
  • Center Message Cookie: A round cookie that serves as the centerpiece of the platter, featuring a game day message.

Once decorated, the helmet and goal post cookies are arranged around the center message cookie to create a complete circular platter.

You can customize the icing colors to match your favorite football team, making this platter a great option for any football celebration!

There are two sizes available. When arranged as a platter, as shown in the example picture, the platter measures:

LARGE- 12 inches in diameter.

SMALL- 9 inches in diameter.

For this tutorial, I'll be decorating the large size.

If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.

The Cookie Decorating Process

Decorating cookies always starts with a good royal icing recipe. This is my favorite royal icing recipe that I use to decorate sugar cookies.

Royal Icing Colors

For this football platter, I used the following color combinations:

How to Decorate Football Helmet Cookies

Let's start with the football helmets!

Begin by adding a thin layer of white icing for the empty space. Let that icing set.

Then fill in the helmet section with red icing, as shown.

Next, Add the helmet's face mask in steps, and a white shine accent to the top of the helmet.

How to Decorate Football Goal Post Cookies

Next up are the goal post cookies!

Begin by filling the top empty space area with a thin layer of white icing. Let that icing set.

Then fill the bottom section with red icing. Add the Upper goal post detail with yellow icing.

Next, add the lower part of the goal post and add the oval shape in the middle with brown icing.

Once the brown icing had time to dry, add the white laces.

Decorating the Center Message Cookie with a Stencil

Now it's time for the centerpiece!

The center circle cookie is what brings the whole platter together. Adding a game day message gives the finished arrangement a fun focal point.

For this cookie, I recommend using our coordinating cookie stencils to make the lettering process quick and easy.

Here's how:

Outline and flood the circle cookie with your desired background icing color. Allow the icing to dry completely before stenciling.

Using a wide striped stencil, I airbrushed green stripes using Leaf Green airbrush color.

Once the airbrush stripes had time to dry, it's time to add the message details.

With stiff-consistency white icing, and this Game Day cookie stencil, spread a thing layer of icing and scrape away the excess.

The steps above are summarized in this time-lapsed video I put together below.

How to Assemble the Football Cookie Platter

Once all your cookies are decorated and completely dry, it's time for the fun part... putting everything together!

Start by placing the round message cookie in the center of your serving tray or platter.

Next, arrange the football helmet and goal post cookies around the center, alternating the designs to create a balanced circular pattern.

Adjust the spacing as needed until all the cookies fit together neatly.

And just like that, you have a football cookie platter that's ready for game day!

This arrangement looks especially impressive when displayed on a large round serving tray. It's a great centerpiece for a football party dessert table, and guests can easily grab an individual cookie to enjoy.

Whether you're hosting a Super Bowl party, celebrating your favorite college football team, or bringing treats to a tailgate, this football cookie platter is sure to be a hit.

I especially love that you can change the icing colors to match different teams, so the same cookie cutter set can be used for all kinds of football celebrations.

And with the help of our coordinating stencils, decorating the details and lettering is easier than ever, even if you're new to royal icing!
