Decorate a Mama Duck Cookie for Mother's Day
Welcome back for another Mother's Day cookie-decorating tutorial! This time, we're featuring a mama duck and duckling cookie design, following a similar style to our mama hen cookie tutorial from our last post. With cookie cutters and stencils from our shop, you'll learn how to create these adorable cookies perfect for celebrating motherhood. Whether it's for Mother's Day or a baby shower, these treats are sure to warm hearts. Let's get started and spread some sweet joy for Mother's Day!
Mama Duck Cookie Cutter
For this cookie set, I used the Mama Duck cookie cutter (the LARGE size) and the tulip oval plaque cookie cutter (the REGULAR size) that were just added to our shop.
When assembled, this Mother's Day set would fit nicely in this BRP cookie box (7" x 4 3/8" x 1.25").
Template for the Mama Duck Cookie Set
To help with the decorating process, I made a PDF template of all the designs of this year's Mother's Day cookie collection, including this Mama Duck cookie set design.
Click the link below for the downloadable template PDF file.
This file is rather large in data size. Just a warning, it might take a moment before the file opens in your browser.
If you have a Kopykake or Pico projector, just print it out (or pull it up on your mobile device) and you are good to go. For those without a projector, follow the suggested steps below by tracing the design onto the cookie with an edible food marker.
The Cookie Decorating Process
For these Mother's Day cookies, you will need the following suggested colors:
- White royal icing (I used Americolor Bright White.)
- Orange icing (I used Americolor Orange.)
- Yellow icing (I used Egg Yellow.)
- Black icing (I used Americolor Super Black.)
- Pink (I mixed Wilton Rose (a little goes a long way) with Americolor Electric Purple.)
- Green icing (I used Americolor Laurel.)
Step 1
Begin by filling in the head and body section with white icing.
Once that icing had time to set, add the orange beak and the yellow duckling body section.
Step 2
Next, add the duckling's head and orange foot, as shown.
Then add the duckling's body and orange beak.
Step 3
For the final steps, add the black eye details and the white outlines around the mama duck.
Mama Duck Cookie Video Tutorial
The steps above are summarized in this time-lapsed video I put together below.
Below is the completed mama duck cookie. To make it a set for Mother's Day, I added a tulip plaque cookie to write "mom" for the occasion.
Both of these cookies fit nicely in this BRP cookie box (7" x 4 3/8" x 1.25").
