Do you feel more creative when you surround yourself with other creative people? That’s how I feel every time I visit my brother in San Francisco. Man, that city is full of artistic talent! My brother’s friend, Steve, is one of those talents. I recently collaborated with him on a set of cookies I want to share with you.
Steve is an awesome illustrator specializing in artwork that has interesting dimension. He told me a few weeks ago he’s been wanting to switch gears and focus more on 2-D children’s book style illustrations. Our conversation on this topic really piqued my interest. For while, I had this idea for a winter cookie lingering in my mind, so I ask Steve if he wanted to sketch the design for me using that children’s book style he mentioned. I was ecstatic when he said YES(!) and we got to work.

On this blog, I usually don’t divulge much of my personal life outside my world of cookie making, but this post will provide more of a peek. As you probably figured out, I spend most of my free time making cookies. It’s a fun hobby that I love doing, but it doesn’t really pay the bills. For a living, I’m a full-time engineer at an aerospace and defense corporation in the Seattle area (if you Google it, I’m sure you can find out which one).
Last weekend, my old work group had its annual Christmas party. This event brings together members, past and present, who works/worked in the Aero Simulation group. I moved on to another group within the company but this party was always a festive opportunity to reunite with everyone again. Sadly, I wasn’t able to attend the party this year, but I did make cookies for them in my absence. [Continue Reading...]

A week or so ago I participated in The Great Food Blogger Cookie Swap. I first heard about this cookie swap early last year, before I had a blog of my own, and it seemed like a lot of fun. I think subconsciously one reason I was motivated to start blogging was just to get a chance to participate in this event.
The basic setup is this: you receive names of three other food bloggers and ship them each one dozen cookies. In return, you get three different shipments of cookies for yourself. Who doesn’t like getting packages in the mail? AND to have them be cookies? Win-Win.

My last post showed how to re-purpose a cookie cutter for a design the cutter wasn’t intended for. I know many people have been doing this for years, but reusing a cutter is always a challenge for me. I usually end up hand-cutting the dough for an idea I come up with. I struggle with thinking outside of the
However, after finishing those Frosty cookies, I felt inspired and thought maybe I should continue this challenge of cutter creativity. After eyeing over my cookie cutter collection (it’s a tiny collection), I came up with a creative way to use and reuse a snowman shape, AND it involved no extra trimming or altering the shapes.
I cut out a few snowmen shapes using this cutter. This just happened to be the particular one I had on hand, but any snowman shape with a hat would work.
