  1. Star Wars Ewok Cookies with Printable Templates

It’s finally May! Do you know what that means? We are just days away from the fan-proclaimed Star Wars Day, May 4th– a day fans of the series get punny with the phrase, “May the 4th be with you.” To help fellow Star Wars fans out there celebrate this glorious day, I made a cookie tutorial of my favorite race in the Star Wars universe, the Ewoks.

Typically, character cookies are the most challenging type of decorated cookie to do. However, my hopes when I put this tutorial together was to reduce any decorating intimidation by simplifying the designs, while using common cookie cutter shapes. To top it off, I’m also providing a printout template of the designs as an aid if you decide to make these treats for yourself. Now lets get started!

For these Ewok cookies, I came up with two designs. The first one is simply the head of an Ewok. To make these head cookies, I began with cookies cut by this Easter egg cutter (shown below).

You can download and print the PDF template of this design HERE.

  2. Throwback Thursday – Teddy Ruxpin Cookies

My 31st birthday is in a couple of weeks and a few times over the past year I couldn’t help but dwell on the past. (Maybe “dwell” is too strong of a word. What’s a good word for “still feels like a kid, but battles lowered energy levels and increased male-pattern baldness”?) Anyways, while contemplating the woes of aging, I saw this e-card…

    I'm 30 e-card

Funny, right? I had a good laugh and realized I shouldn’t be dwelling on the past, but celebrating it. That’s when I came up with Throwback Thursday!

For Throwback Thursday, I plan to do a series of cookies that stem from the joys of my childhood years (mid 80s to early 90s)– anything from toys, movies, TV shows, music, you name it. If you’re an 80s kid, I’m sure you will relate to these posts. If you’re not, I hope you will still have fun following along.

To kick-off Throwback Thursday I made Teddy Ruxpin cookies!

  3. Thanksgiving Cookies

I’m super excited that Thanksgiving is just a few days away. I’m heading back to San Francisco tomorrow morning to spend time with my brother for the holiday break. I have yet to pack and am far from ready so I’m going to keep this post short and sweet.

I made a Thanksgiving cookie platter inspired by the great Callye at The Sweet Adventures of Sugarbelle. I loved this Thanksgiving set she made, especially the color palette of her indian corn. The blue amongst all those fall colors is really striking and became my inspiration for this set.

I replicated her Indian corn cookie with just a slight twist. I also did typography on a plaque and added a fall leave wreath.

  4. Fall Housewarming Cookies

My sister, Elenna, called me a few days ago asking for a favor. She’s a realtor in Florida and one of her clients was closing on a house soon. My sister was wondering if I could make them a batch of cookies as a housewarming gift.

Coincidently, I also have two Seattle friends closing on homes in the coming weeks. Making a cookie batch big enough for everyone could kill two three birds with one stone. The timing was perfect and let my sister know I’d come up with something.

Looking for inspiration for this batch I just had to walk outside. The trees are changing to fiery shades, the sidewalks are blanketed with leaves, and the front porches in my neighborhood are decorated with pumpkins and autumn flair. I decided to create a Fall-themed housewarming batch inspired by all these Fall elements.

To add to the “Fall”ness of this batch, I tweaked my usual, go-to roll-out recipe a tiny bit. I just made two simple changes– substituted half the quantity of granulated sugar with dark brown sugar and added a teaspoon of pumpkin spice for taste and looks.
