Happy Mother’s Day to all you wonderful moms out there!

This post will be a quick one. I just wanted to share with you this batch of cookies I made for Mother’s Day. I decided to go with a mom-and-kids baking theme.

As you might have guessed, I got inspiration while baking a previous batch of cookies. I essentially went around my kitchen looking for items that had large and small versions of itself. After drawing up some designs of what I found, I added some eyes and mouths to resemble adoring kids with their grown up moms.

I know some moms may not be the baker in the family. This set could easily be made for all those dads out there that love to bake, as well. Just remove the eyelashes and swap out the red lips for dad-like mustaches. Maybe change up the color palette, too.

I have some exciting news! I’d like to share two things with you that I love dearly— geeky cookies and giveaways. I’ll get to the giveaway in a moment, but let me first show you the cookies I made this week.

These Star Trek themed cookies were inspired by this cake by Notorious Cupcakes. I loved the simple uniform design. Bonus points for being a design from my favorite Star Trek series, The Next Generation. If you’re not familiar with this Star Trek series here’s a picture for reference.

Do you feel more creative when you surround yourself with other creative people? That’s how I feel every time I visit my brother in San Francisco. Man, that city is full of artistic talent! My brother’s friend, Steve, is one of those talents. I recently collaborated with him on a set of cookies I want to share with you.

Steve is an awesome illustrator specializing in artwork that has interesting dimension. He told me a few weeks ago he’s been wanting to switch gears and focus more on 2-D children’s book style illustrations. Our conversation on this topic really piqued my interest. For while, I had this idea for a winter cookie lingering in my mind, so I ask Steve if he wanted to sketch the design for me using that children’s book style he mentioned. I was ecstatic when he said YES(!) and we got to work.

  4. Aero Simulation Work Party Cookies

On this blog, I usually don’t divulge much of my personal life outside my world of cookie making, but this post will provide more of a peek. As you probably figured out, I spend most of my free time making cookies. It’s a fun hobby that I love doing, but it doesn’t really pay the bills. For a living, I’m a full-time engineer at an aerospace and defense corporation in the Seattle area (if you Google it, I’m sure you can find out which one).

Last weekend, my old work group had its annual Christmas party. This event brings together members, past and present, who works/worked in the Aero Simulation group. I moved on to another group within the company but this party was always a festive opportunity to reunite with everyone again. Sadly, I wasn’t able to attend the party this year, but I did make cookies for them in my absence. [Continue Reading...]
