Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Heart Cookies

Remember back in elementary school, for St. Valentine’s Day everyone would give cartoon-themed cards to their classmates? I had fond memories of making our own paper mailboxes and filling little envelopes with little valentine cards for everyone in the class.  (Do kids still do this in school?) Here’s an example of what I’m referring to:

With Valentine’s Day coming up, I wanted to do a throw-back to valentines from my childhood days.  I made heart-shaped Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle cookies.

I think any kid growing up in the late 80′s could relate to these heroes in a half shell.  Their red, blue, orange, and purple masks were so iconic, yet so simple.  I figured the mask would work out great on a the chocolate heart cookies I made a few days ago. Cowabunga!

Can we order these?

Mike

Hi Kristin. Sorry I don’t take orders. I just like sharing ideas. Thanks for checking out my blog though!

Did you do all the black outlining first and then flood the colors in? My grandson is obsessed with TMNT and I would love to make these for him for Valentine’s Day. Thanks for the help.

Mike

Hey there, Serena. The black online was done last over everything because I wanted the outline to pop. But I think outlining the black first would work just fine too!

Germaine

Do you have a template for the eyes?

Mike

Hey there, Germaine. I made a template from clipart I googled on the web. Something like this but then I tapered the ends to match the sides of the heart.

Sabrina

Can you tell me how you made the icing? And what is the best way to ice them?? I am going to make them for my sons daycare on valentines day. We baked the cookies tonight and they are so good!!!

Mike

Hi, Sabrina. I made the icing using the recipe I posted here. I made a template from clipart I googled on the web. Something like this but then I tapered the ends to match the sides of the heart. Trace the mask template on the cookie with food coloring marker. Outline and flood the mask first, then after that sets (about 1 hour) outline and flood the green parts. The next day, flood the white parts, then after that dries outline the black on top.
